Sorry!

Post by bigbob »

Hi everybody, I was sent a letter from a member that said I shouldn't put my web site below my answers To which I'm very sorry i did and that I'm jumping around asking about alot of different horns and again I'm very sorry!I don't know one horn from another but when I see one I like I ask about it.I'm on a fixed income and dont have very much money so I keep trying to trade my old sousaphone and the little money I have saved for a little bigger horn than my old 3J..But I ment no harm!! and I didn't intend for anyone to be mad at me.. I'm just an old artist that sits at home everyday and loves reading what people have to say about different subjects on this site and look at the tubas and dream.. from now on I won't put my sculpture site down below my comments and when I save enough money I'll then try for a new horn, I'm like a little kid at christmas with this site and I guess I over did it!! Again I must opologise for my behavior I didn't know the protocol I'm going to keep on watching and adding comments that might be relevent but again I'm so sorry if I offended anyone and I hope you all forgive me your friend in Pa....................................bigbob

Well, Bob.... I certainly didn't find your posts offensive even though they did exhibit sort of a 'kid in the candy store' characteristic. I've been hanging around this forum for a long time and it's exciting to me to see 'comeback' players getting worked-up about tubas and low brass. That's about where I was twenty years ago and I'm glad there are resources like TubeNet around. There's a wealth of information here. Stay with us.

Bob you obviously think a bit differently than some of us, which is OK with me. We all have been through things, which marked us for life.

I will repeat myself by urging you to make the best out of what you have got, tubawise. None of your instruments would make it into a professional symphony orchestra. But they aren’t bad either. Your King sousaphone is more worth for you to play on than it is in any trade you might be able to establish. I don’t know American tuba teaching material, as my main method book is the full Arban edition in a treble clef version. When practicing scales and intervals I do it out of my head over the range I happen to have on a given instrument.

You may have been out of school for many years, yet I trust you to be able to learn playing your sousaphone after bass clef concert notation- You will need to invest time in the project, but then you apparently are richer in time than in $$$. I don’t attempt to speak down to you. as I guess we are very close in age. I have worked with music professionally, and I have written part of my experiences down in a scale practicing system dedicated specifically to low brasses in each of the most common pitches of Bb, F, Eb, CC, and BBb. Send med your mail address via the mail button to the right of here and I will make it possible for you to download the .pdf files for free. There are no fingering tables as all pitches of instruments come in various valve layouts. But researching the fingerings yourself will educate you, and you are not too old for that. You will find that all brasses are very similar, only their notation may be offset.

AHHHH!!! I KNEW I SHOULDN'T HAVE INVESTED IN CAT FART FUTURES!!!!

Kidding aside, Bob, you don't owe anyone an apology. If you think TubeNet is like a candy store, wait until you drive East to Woodbridge, NJ and visit Dillon music. Spit AND drool are normal parts of the visit. :)

Ditto what everybody else said. I find your exuberance warm and welcoming. Keep it coming. And as far as having your web page linked in your signature, we are all allowed to have whatever in our signatures and then if somebody wishes to ignore it then then don't have to click the link. Just my humble opinion for whatever its worth.

And Bigbob I would point out you can put link to your website via your Profile in 'User Control Panel' if you don't want to continue putting in your signature. Then a globe icon will appear under your user name on the right.

What I really like about tuba players is that they tend to encourage each other. That's just great.

Thank You!! all for the kind words of encouragement.. the letter that was sent to me was kind and he said he hoped I didn't think he was being unkind just warning me what could happen.. he said that by bumping a product that was on hold I would make people mad ...He said he was just trying to keep me from getting in trouble.. I guess he's right.. I didn't know just trying to help out!! I wrote him and told him I was sorry... but it bothered me so much I had to apologize(boy I'm a terrible speller<s>)to the group... I'm taking lessons again and someday hope to be in a small band..but weather that happens or not I will still continue with this group and play and play and you know<s> and if I do something wrong let me know!!(you only learn by your mistakes)and believe me I make plenty!(just look at my spelling haha)I have never asked any of you to buy my artwork or sent pictures of my newest works!! that in my opion would be innapropriate since this is a tuba site!I am going to try to make some kind of tuba assist (I have a bad back)and if its good I'll try to be a sponsor and I'll keep on asking stupid questions after all I'm a dumb ole artist who just loves the tuba!!!(not so my wife)<s>She just sighs and goes in the other room haha once again thank you for your kind words and encouragement your friend in Pa.......................bigbob http://www.rgisculptures.com" target="_blank" target="_blank ...I think I'm going to do what Neptune said..thanks

Bob, it's good to see enthusiasm. Your website is who you are. The person who emailed you doesn't have a clue. So, what shall I add to my signature: the website of the firm I work for? The link to my son's Scout Troop where I'm a leader? The church I attend? Post not only the occasional mouthpiece I sell that doesn't work out, but every garage sale I have for myself and for the Troop? Advertise myself as a damn good studio and call musician on a range of instruments? Everyone who engages in dialog on this forum could post something in some similar regard, and probably should.

I, for one, am glad you added your website. I appreciate your metalwork. You have nothing to be sorry for. Thanks for posting.

Well, we ARE, after all, tuba players...
