New Additions to the Garage

Post by bearphonium »

The month of October was a busy month for my pocketbook. With some careful planning, two new (to me) silver beauties came to live at my house. One is a 2002 Yamaha FZ1 moorsikle. The other is a VMI 201 tuba. Storage space is at a premium, so on Weds. nights, the tuba lives in the garage (between rehearsal nights). I had to leave rehearsal early last night due to my once monthly night court appearance, leaving my trumpet player partner to deal with my tuba. I got home from rehearsal to find this:
Mirafone 186 BBb
VMI 201 3/4 BBb
King Sousaphone
Conn 19I 4-valve non-comp Euph

bearphonium,
You're a lucky guy with a cool partner.
My 1940 King tuba resides in my garage on it's Tubatamer stand right next to my 1976 Yamaha RD400 motorcycle.
My partner moved our large sound system into my music room along with my grandson Casey's trap drum kit and his djembe drum and stand as well as my four guitars, amps and stompbox relegating my tuba out to the cold, drafty garage.
I learned to run hot water over my tuba mouthpiece before I go out to practice.

Really now......How cold could it be right next to the gulf? Glad to see you are still finding a use for the Tubatamer. Sometimes I wish I had it back.
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

I tell my wife that when we buy a house, she'll have a room for an art studio. She tells me that I'll have a room for a tuba studio.

Guess this means we'll be sharing the garage! :)

(Which would be awesome, I've never had a garage!)

You'll see, when you get my age, how the cold cuts more every year. I'd rather be hot than not.
You ain't gettin that Tubatamer back 'til I croak.
I'll make a note to leave it to you in my will.
