After a well fought game that ended with a colossal coaching blunder, the Montreal Alouettes are the champions of the Canadian Football league. They defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 28-25 with no time on the clock. Saskatchewan had held Montreal to the supposed final play which was a 35 yard field goal. Montreal's kicker missed HOWEVER Saskatchewan was penalized for having too many men on the field (13) and the Alouettes kicked again for the win. Apparently the Riders have three different return teams and the one player who was supposed to come off of the field didn't.
It will be a very long, very cold and very disappointing winter here in the land God gave to Cain.

Re: Football Season Over
Does the Canadian league really use 12 players on a team or was that a typo? I have a cousin who played for Tommy Bowden @ Clemson and played a few years in the Canadian League. I'm not sure what team he played for.roughrider wrote:Montreal's kicker missed HOWEVER Saskatchewan was penalized for having too many men on the field (13) .......Apparently the Riders have three different return teams and the one player who was supposed to come off of the field didn't.

Canadian Football League teams play with twelve players per side. The field is also much longer and wider than the American version.

Wow. I had no idea. What are the field dimensions? Is it still 10 yards or 9 meters per down? What position is duplicated for the 12 man? I would imagine it would be an extra wide-out or running back.roughrider wrote:Canadian Football League teams play with twelve players per side. My cousin's name is John McDermott.

And not only that, but the backfield gets to be in motion before the snap, and the end zone is 20 yards deep instead of 10, as well as being both wider and longer. Now that's what makes for a great passing game!

Basic Offensive Alignment:
1 quarterback
1 fullback
1 halfback
1 center
2 guards
2 tackles
2 ends
2 flankers
Basic Defensive Alignment
2 tackles
2 ends
4 linebackers
4 defensive backs
Biggest athletic skill necessary: The ability to run long distances at high speed!
Canadian football is 3 down ball. I enjoy watching the NFL as well. Canadian game is much faster however the skill level in the NFL is much higher. They both have their advantages.

Re: Football Season Over
Hi Todd,
I have searched the CFl's database and have been unable to find your cousin. If he played for Bowden he must have been pretty good. There are and have been many SEC players who have done very well in the CFL. Ole Miss has our former head coach Kent Austin. Austin was the
Roughriders quarterback when they last won the Grey Cup in 1989. He is now the offensive coordinator at Ole Miss. A head coach who was and is very well respected for the well disciplined and prepared football team he led here.
