PT86

Post by Bob Kolada »

I have a PT48 that I use when I play Bb and sousaphone. I like it, but I would not mind a wider rim. How does the 86 compare? I do not want to go down in rim size (and would actually be up for going bigger as I only use my 48 for big-horn stuff) and if it's a bit shallower so much the better.
PT-86
* CUP CHARACTERISTICS: 33.7 mm. diameter - Very wide diameter - Moderate depth
* RIM CHARACTERISTICS: Width 9 mm. - Slightly rounded inner edges
* THROAT BORE: 8.3 mm.
* Model PT-86 offers a very wide cup for players with particularly large lips. It favors middle and low registers, particularly when high volume is desired. The tonal character is round and weighty

Unfortunately I can't find a picture of the tuba player from "Wagons East!" to take proper advantage of the phrase "big horn".... :D

Thanks!

If you want a truly huge mouthpiece, the LOUD LM-12 or the LOUD LM-3 are the biggest I can find. Maybe a Denis Wick 1XL?

In need of a good 4/4 CC with 5 valves for a really low price!

Maybe.... but I don 't think I am really looking for a huge mouthpiece or else I'd get a Bruno Tilz or some such thing. :D
