Some of us don't like to think that is such a long time...................
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

I think the most interesting aspect of that statement is that he's been playing a BBb tuba that long. The vogue when I began playing in 1957 (OVER fifty years ago) was to start a kid out on Eb tuba.

I moved from a Bb baritone to a BBb sousy in 1953. I didn't play Eb until the mid 70's when I sat in one of those Civil War re-enactment bands with period horns.

Looks like we have been at the game for pretty well the same time. MY first was a Pan American BBb with a Wenger tuba chair and a couple thick phone books as the chair had to be left set for the older/bigger players.

Is THIS why I now feel older than I was 30 years ago?????????

Started on BBb sousaphone in 1957. Never played anything but BBb. Not all that uncommon I'd think.

Heck, I switched from Eb to BBb 54 years ago and never looked back.
Still playing, and just starting to get serious about it.
