I sent an E-mail to Custom Music asking about the HB-21 and they replied that Hirsbrunner tubas are no longer being made. I asked for more information about it and have not received a reply...

I suggest calling and talking to Jeff Rideout directly.

Call Peter in Switzerland directly.
I did and found out some things.
I am the original poster in the FOR SALE section that mentioned the lack of Hirsbrunner horns.
I encourage anyone who is interested to do their own research and talk to Peter directly.
It will cost a bit for the phone call, but will answer a few questions and hopefully clear up some lack of information here in the states. :!:

I was told in May they aren't not being made anymore when Custom called looking to substitute Perantucci instruments for an order from 2007. Something nefarious is going on.

We could all bombard them with calls, or you could quash all rumors now. Did Peter serve you with a non disclosure agreement before divulging sensitive info? For the love of God (or whatever deity you believe or don't believe) put an end to the conjecture and save us from ourselves. I don't want to continue spreading false info.

OK, guys,
I think everyone should just calm down a bit. I have been in contact with Peter, Jr. within the last 10 days, and they seem to be still quite in business. I'm not at all sure what may be going on with certain business interests in North America.

I'll plan to call him as soon as the Holidays are over. Herr Hirsbrunner has been a real gentleman in all of our dealings, and I have every confidence that fine Hirsbrunner tubas will continue to be available, one way or another.

I've seen several things that make no sense in this thread, and since Lee is a trustable kind of guy, I will look forward to his recounting of his upcoming discussion with Mr Hirsbrunner.

While I have a couple of suspicions, I will not put them into play here. Please, wait for Lee.

Thanks, Lee, for seeking the truth.

I am the original poster, but I was just curious about what I had read in another thread (I had not suspected anything serious...just curious). Anyways, it is interesting to read what others have said, but like most, I would like to see the truth.

By the way, I'm not interested in calling. 8)

If your concern is to stop spreading false info, you can do that by simply ceasing to relate the gossip you've heard through the grapevine, including anything you read here. If your concern is to spread an alternative rumor from a different "credible source"—one, I might add, whose bona fides consist solely of his unsupported claim to having spoken with Herr Hirsbrunner— to the one you've been spreading, then go ahead and spread anything wrick71 might be persuaded to divulge from his conversation with Herr Hirsbrunner.

With no disrespect intended toward wrick71, any yahoo can log on here and claim to have spoken with Herr Hirsbrunner, and most of us on the TNFJ would have no way of proving or disproving the claim.

When a Lee Stofer says he has spoken with Herr Hirsbrunner, one may credit his claim both because of his standing in the tuba community and his long-standing a reputation, both on and off TubeNet, for trustworthiness—both of which would be damaged were the claim to be demonstrated to be false.

In contrast to Mr. Stofer, wrick71, according to his (her?) profile, has been a member of TubeNet for all of 4 months and, to date, has all of 12 posts to his (her?) credit, three of which are in this thread, and is likely not known by a significant majority of the TubeNet community. The fact that he (she?) refuses to feed the rumor mill but instead encourages truly interested parties to contact Herr Hirsbrunner to get the details from directly does weigh in favor of his (her?) trustworthiness, but absent independent corroboration of his (her?) having spoken to Herr Hirsbrunner, that, in and of itself, is not sufficient ground for believing him (her?) be any more credible a source of information than any other otherwise anonymous poster claiming to have "inside information."

With all due respect to wrick71 his original post on 27 Oct 2009 was to look for a HB tuba.
wrick71 wrote:Since it seems that HIrsbrunner is no longer importing/making instruments, I was just wondering if anyone may know where I might be able to track down a GOOD/GREAT used horn. I have been in contact with Custom Music and they are at a loss for an explanation of Peter's current situation, (Custom Music has been very helpful and patient with me, I have no qualms with them). I had worked with a HB2P years ago and wish I could get ahold of one again, but everytime I get a lead on a good used one, I lose out. Any ideas??????
I can understand wrick71’s frustrations when he was turned away from buying an HB tuba. In my eyes all wrick71 is concerned about is finding a good HB tuba and truth, which is why he is/was encouraging people to go to the source.

It is irrelevant to mention whether wrick71 is a credtiable source or not because he has only been registered for only 3 months. By applying this logic, the same can be said about anybody who has been on the tubenet for any length of time.

In terms of creditability the only person, apart from Lee Stofer, who can answer these questions is Herr Hirsbrunner . wrick71 knows this, which is the reason why he is directing people to the source.

In my dealings with Mr. Peter Hirsbrunner Jr. for over the past 10 years I can honestly say that Herr Hirsbrunner is a good and respectable Swiss as well as a man of his word. In Switzerland honor and integrity are still very much important in the lives of the people here and to do anything else goes against a much higher law.

A curious claim, rather contradicted by your appeal to wrick71 to reveal the gist of his (purported) conversation with Herr Hirsbrunner: information, that, by definition, would be secondhand; and your statement:
I don't want to continue spreading false info.

In trying to to be a gentleman and not one to spread rumors and other unnecessary gossip that may or may not be true, I did post months ago about looking for a good used HB-21 horn. I was not looking to start a rumor fight or some type of conspiracy, I was, in fact looking for a good used HB-21. Someone read my post on the FOR SALE section and began asking questions here, which is fine with me in that maybe someone would have an answer that I was not able to get with Custom Music. Again, I was not looking for trouble.
I find it incredibly ignorant of some people to get suspicious of me. If one were in doubt they could simply do their own research like I did and find some answers for themselves. I purposely did not post what bit of information I found so I would stay out of the "who knows what", "I know something you don't know" game. When I said go to the source I meant it. If you do not trust me, fine, but do not question my credibility. To judge my credibility based on a few postings on a public tuba forum is absurd. Based on one particular individual's assessment protocol, most on this forum should not be trusted or believed. I was (and still am) looking for a good horn. I was pulled into this particular discussion, if any one has specific questions they can PM me. On more than one occasion that has happened and I will tell that person a few more details of my personal trials and tribulations on the quest for a good tuba, but I will simply not post my experiences on an open public forum for all to see. I joined this forum with one purpose, that is, to get a good horn just like I said in my original post in the FOR SALE section. Yes, I am (was) curious about what is going on as much as all of you, but please do not question my credibility. If you do not like what you see, do not look at it. This is not a court of law, use this forum with a "grain of salt."
Just because someone has "six valves" or is a sponsor or a professional does not automatically mean they are to be trusted. That is why I told you to do your own research; that way my own credibility does not need to be questioned because you could simply see for yourself.
Any pro knows how cutthroat this business is. I have been "screwed over" many times on gigs and other matters by people of so called "high credibility." I have been disappointed and disgusted by some of the measures "professionals" will go to to secure that all important "buck twenty five" gig.
I apparently made the false assumption that this forum would be different in the way that people may "all get along", but the human spirit has let me down once again. I guess I am just getting too old for this grade school level of discussion and mentality of some people. (you know who you are)

Wrick71 revealing his research would be him relating his own first hand info, which I would refer to in all future discussions. If he doesn't want to, that's fine; but by not doing so, he contributes to the "I know something you don't" game he doesn't want to be a part of. It is up to me/us to determine the veracity of anyone's words here or in real life. In my dealings with Hirsbrunner and their distributor, I have related my recent experiences of last May. I guess these experiences are too old.

Until I hear definitively what's happening, I will continue to ask questions and prod for information. Mr. Stofer has gotten that quest off to a good start. I'll try tp be more courteous.
