Tuba stands (non-playing) and adhesive...

Greetings,

I recently went into my studio to find that my King 2341 that I had in an M&M tuba stand had slid out onto the floor. No damage as only the bottom slid out and it remained supported by the side braces but I have to admit it scared the crap out of me.

Apparently the adhesive that holds the rubber cushion on the bottom of the stand where the bottom bow rests gave way and the rubber cushion (and the bottom bow) simply slid off.

So...the first question is what is the best way to repair this? I assume I need to clean the remaining adhesive off the rubber and then re-apply some form of adhesive and re-stick it to the stand. What is the best bet for an adhesive that won't give way? Obviously this is to stick rubber to metal.

Secondly, is it just a bad idea to leave a tuba in a stand for long term storage? I like keeping it handy. I practice much more when I don't have to remove it from a case and put it together every time. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a weakness in the M&M stand design. Maybe for the safety of your tuba, replace the stand with a K&M where the bottom cradle in fixed, so that could not happen.

I have not had a tuba slip over using K&M stands during the last 5 years. I too like to keep my tubas out for easy access.
