The M & M TU2000 BBb Tuba questions

Post by Bigmanontuba »

I am asking all the high mucky mucks here on the board if they have heard anything on the M & M tuba model TU2000

I am in the market for a good size BBb tuba, (being that I am selling my CC that I bought ever so hastily) and I have been eyeballing this once for a while. It has a good size bore, 19 in bell. All around a big horn.

Has anyone played one of these before. I have heard M & M tubas before, and there Hirsbrunner 192 clone is a good horn for the money. If anyone can help me out with some info, it will be greatly appreciated.

I am not a "high mucky-muck", but I did play on it at the Army tuba conference a couple of years ago. It plays well, except for one minor issue: the first valve tubing is a couple of inches too long, causing every first-valve note to be quite flat. That's an easy thing to fix, and I told Dr. B about it. (He could spend less money on brass tubing and have a better instrument!) Last year I played on one again at the conference, and it still had the same problem.
I like the piston set and wanted to buy one to graft onto an old tuba, but Dr. B was unable to obtain it for me. (He's the guy who imports M&M tubas.)
I imagine that he will be at the conference again this year; if you can make it you can compare it with a lot of other tubas and see what feels right for you.

The Tuba Exchange version, at least, plays very nicely.

Hi-
For a BBb piston tuba, try the new W. Nirschl/Gemstone instrument-you will LOVE it !
