I quit 17 years ago after smoking for 25. Actually I quit a bunch of times before that one but it finally took. Congratulations! Eventually not smoking feel way better than smoking. I'll be praying for your continued success. PM me if you want some more encouragement. Again Congrats!Todd S. Malicoate wrote:UPDATE:
I quit smoking today...again. I think it will "take" this time since I'm speaking victory over this addiction! Those of you who are so inclined, I would appreciate your words of victory on my behalf as well. Thanks!

Nope. My post was on a couple of levels. You got the obvious one. My subliminal target also got his message. Just pokin' a bit of fun at someone who lives almost as close to an epicenter as you but a half a continent away.goodgigs wrote:You really curious about why we love California?

Re: Update Update
Way to go, Todd. You have a tough row to hoe.
My first attempt at quitting failed after one month.
I smoked for 45 years until my doc told me I had heart disease and needed a quick 5-way bypass operation.
Nine days in the hospital got me by the worst cravings.
That was 2001 and today I'm free and so glad to leave the house without planning and counting cigarettes to see if I could get out and back without copping another pack.
I pray for your success, sir.

Re: Update Update
My father used to be a bad chain smoker, smoking on average 3 packs a day. He quit 12 years ago this month, cold turkey. Eve though he always had a cigarette in his mouth when I was growing up, anytime I see a picture of him or a video of him smoking, it seems totally out of place.
Good luck Todd, we're all rooting for you!!!

Re: Update Update
Today's the best day to quit. If you have to quit again next week, that's fine too. So long as you keep on quitting, you're headed in the right direction. I don't know anyone who managed on the first try. I quit on October 16th, 2006. I told all my friends that I had quit. I told people to take any smokes they saw me with away and to publicly shame me. Sure, there have been slip ups along the way, that's normal and nothing to be ashamed of. My wife quit at the same time.Todd S. Malicoate wrote:UPDATE:

In Chicago, with average price over that time estimated at $7.50 (they were around $6.70 when we quit, I think they're around $9.00 here now? Not 100% sure, $7.50 seems safe), and also assuming that we each had only one pack a day (which was rarely the case) - we've saved roughly $12,300.00 in the past 2.25 years. Bloke said that a Schillaphone was a years worth of smokes. In my case (at current prices at my corner store) it's more like 6 months.
The greatest thing about having quit? I can run up the stairs now. I feel better now at 31 than I felt at 21. It's worth it on every level.
Stick it out!

Re: Update Update
Stay with it, no matter what it takes. I had the "all or nothing" attitude and it took a coma after countless attempts to quit to get me over the physical part. When I woke up, though, I still had to fight the mental urges. It was tough.Todd S. Malicoate wrote:UPDATE:

I can tell you that, after my wife refused to buy me any, it is MORE than worth it, whatever it takes. Man is my life better now!

The liquid sunshine in Oregon is 30 degrees colder than the liquid sunshine on Hawaii. But, "No rain, no rainbows" works here too.

You probably get a lot more rain the the winter than they do but they catch up in the summer when you usually don't many rainbows.

How are we doing Todd? Inquiring minds want to know. Good or bad, it's time for an update.

Still smoke-free. Just like the myriad of attempts before, the first week doesn't seem to be any trouble.

Re: Update Update
It's the mental triggers. Expect them when they come, and try to be strong. It's worth it!

Re: Update Update
You are absolutely correct. It's the times and places associated with smoking that are the hardest habits to break. The "triggers" are still there, but so far they have been easy to dismiss.windshieldbug wrote:It's the mental triggers. Expect them when they come, and try to be strong. It's worth it!
I'm still going with my original plan (inspired by Patton). Declare victory over the addiction and that's that. It's already fixed and done. It helps (me, at least) with the process when a craving does come up.
