What does B&S stand for?

Post by arpthark »

I know I've seen a topic like this one from a few years ago, but I can't seem to find it anywhere, nor can I find anything on the official VMI website saying what the abbreviation means. So, quick question: what does B&S stand for?

Not sure, but I`ve heard "Bleck und Signal".
Anyone who have heard the same?

The letters B&S stand for Blas- and Signalinstrumente (wind- and signal instruments).

Ah, I knew it was something German, but wasn't sure what it meant. Thanks a lot!

to be exact, the name was Blechblas- und Signalinstrumentenfabrik, so there is the "bleck". In german, brass instruments are called Blechblasinstrumente.

Is it true that B & S used to make train crossing signals as part of the "Signalinstrumentenfabrik?"

I knew a guy in Germany who said that it stood for Bull and... well I'll let you figure it out (sounds like spit).
This was of course AFTER i told him that I play a PT6 and a GDR PT10.

and yes, they also made railroad crossing warning systems...thus the "signal" part.

Among other things. I think they also made sirens, like for police cars and amulances etc.

Some people really aren't fans...

For them, it stands for "Bland and 'Spensive"

And here I had thought they stood for truth, justice and the American (er, Bavarian? Sudeten?) way.
