Re: Vaughan-Williams
Do you reckon a person would really pay that much for the composition?

Re: Vaughan-Williams
Heck, for that price, I'd want a piece of VW, not just a piece by VW...
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Re: Vaughan-Williams
It doesn't offend the sensibilities as much if you read VW(Volkswagen, as in a few shares of stock).
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

Re: Vaughan-Williams
I sent a question to the lister this morning asking if the price is a mistake. Still no response.

I would think Oxford University Press would have something to say at advertising at such a high price and evaluate supplying this dealer.

Re: Vaughan-Williams
HUH! Sounds like a very strange marketing strategy to me!goodgigs wrote:Here's what he told me.
Dear goodgigs,
We price certain books at $1,000 when we are
temporarily running low on stock and do not want
to sell the item. By setting the price to $1,000
(as opposed to ending the listing), we can just
change the price back to normal when we receive
stock, ensuring that the book is available for
sale again immediately. Be sure to check back
soon!

Hmmmm.... I have these three 20J tubas for sale but don't really want to sell them. So... I guess I'll just list them for $10,000 each. Duh!

Not a bad idea, actually, though it could be done at a lower price.bloke wrote:Send me your Oxford edition (1960's - current) of the RVW concerto, and (with Witeout and a Sharpie) I'll fix all of the discrepancies between it and the rental RVW manuscript version of the solo (old rental score).
...$1000
I remember your thread of some time ago in which you mentioned you might do people a favour by producing an edited version if the copyright issue could be resolved. Well............ maybe something like this would be the answer.
I seriously doubt OUP could claim any violation of coyright if somebody sent you an original and in return you sent them an edited original. (Or they bought an original from you and paid a premium for an original which had been "edited" .) OUP gets their $$ for selling the original copy, somebody makes a few bucks for doing the editing (without producing any illegal "copies"), and the person who paid OUP their dues gets a proper performance version. Everybody wins!!!!!!!!
I realise you are probably way to busy to be bothered hand editing several copies and I no longer have mine which I edited by copying Harvey's hand edited copy (an original), but over the next few months I am going to have heaps of time and will be looking for something sedentary to do while while going through the process of having two total knee replacements.
Get my gist?

I emailed the guy too about his posting. I think we should ALL email him. See if he does it again then!

Re: Vaughan-Williams
Why bother??? He has a whole "store" with a number of items priced this way. If somebody doesn't like it - ignore it - it might even go away. The only person I could see being hurt is HIM as potential buyers would just look elsewhere and not consider him as a source in future.bort wrote:I emailed the guy too about his posting.
