GREAT BRASS; GERMAN BRASS

Post by Tundratubast »

Picked up this new CD, German Brass; Fascination Bach. Incredible Tuba playing. The player I think is
Stefan Ambrosius. His pic on their web shows him with a smoking huge BAT, It seems nobody told him to use something smaller than his 6/4 in an ensemble  , and on YouTube a pretty nice F. Give it a listen, it is pretty amazing playing.
:) :tuba:

Cool!

I don't know anything about the new guy, but I believe Walter Hilgers played a 6+kicker F (I'm nost sure which one, as I believe the Melton website show a small and large Hilgers F) and a MW 197 (?) when he was in the German Brass. The sound with him and Uwe Fussel on contrabass trombone rather warmed my heart.

I'm pretty sure Hilgers played a Model 45H-S with a quint valve on the Bach DVD. The Bb was a Boehm and Meinl I think that the 197 is a copy of.

The 197 is a copy of a large Bohland & Fuchs BBb tuba.

Your exactly right, I was thinking of another horn at the time. He produces an awesome sound on that horn
