Tuba & Euphonium Workshop
Ages 15 to 20
The 2010 Boston University Tanglewood Institute Tuba & Euphonium Workshop will be held under the direction of Boston Symphony Orchestra principal tuba Mike Roylance.
Through individualized attention in daily class settings, the workshop will address the technical and musical aspects of playing the tuba and euphonium. Master classes offered by the director will focus on technique, solo repertoire, orchestral excerpts, and audition preparation.
As an integral component of the workshop, students will also be organized into and coached in quartets and a tuba-euphonium choir. Weekly performance classes will provide additional opportunities for students to develop and refine their stage presence, audition, and recital skills.

Re: 2010 BUTI Tuba/Euphonium Workshop with Mike Roylance
The BUTI tuba/euphonium workshop provides an ideal learning and performing opportunity for aspiring players. Rarely anywhere is one able to experience small-group musical training, daily for two weeks, with the tuba player of a major symphony orchestra--Mike Roylance is a world-class teacher and player. Additionally, each of the BUTI instrumental workshops faculty (Boston University School of Music Professors Terry Everson, trumpet; Eric Ruske, horn; Don Lucas, trombone; Mike Roylance, tuba) performs a full recital, which never ceased to impress me during the couple summers I was fortunate to be performing at Tanglewood.
Tanglewood provides plentiful learning resources in addition to the BUTI workshop, including the chance to hear the Boston Pops and the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra and chamber ensembles. The beautiful Berkshire scenery provides daily inspiration, and social activities round out the BUTI experience nicely. With its Lenox, MA location only a couple hours drive from either New York City or Boston, and an abundance of culture and recreation (Normal Rockwell Museum, Shakespeare & Company, hiking, canoeing, etc.), it's not difficult to convince friends and family to come out for a weekend to hear you play a concert.
Highly recommended.
