Colonial Brass in Old Saybrook

Post by DonShirer »

About 3 hours too late to be an upcoming event, but the Colonial Brass Quintet (An offshoot of the Massachusetts-based USAF Band of Liberty) gave an enjoyable concert tonight in the Old Saybrook (CT) Katherine Hepburn theater. They played a varied program including:
Bach - Easter Cantata 146 "My Spirit be Joyful"
Percy Grainger - "Molly on the Shore" and "Colonial Song"
Ermano Picchi - Fantasie Originale (A daunting Euphonium solo)
Vivaldi-Bach - Concerto in C Minor
Victor Evald - Brass Quintet No. 2
Gabriel Faure - Pavane
Michael B. Nelson - "Interrupting Cow"

If you're a New Englander with a venue handy, you might visit their website
http://www.bandofliberty.af.mil/" target="_blank" target="_blank
and inquire about a possible local concert.

And (I know you'll ask) Andy Tucker (a moonlighting percussion player) tooted a very creditable tuba (which I'm almost sure was a Mirafone 188 CC).
