Shaker sucks. How do the percussionists deal with this chick-a-chick-a nonsense?

They don't. Drummers, however, are perfectly fine with it.
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

That's a new one on me. I was under his baton only once, in the sixties, but I can clearly hear him saying that in my head. Irascible is an understatement. To my bass trombone section(2 ea.) he once asked, "Were you guys loggers in a past life?" That was my initiation to the "chain saw" synonym.

Ah yes, I remember well JPP (god in his own mind) "the late- and often irascible John P. Paynter"

In a rehearsal of "Fetes" I gave a line the Jake treatment which ellicited "I'll have no orchestral tuba playing in my band". Stunned looks from other brass players. I took my tuba and left - permanently.

I recall a tour taking in Northern Michigan in winter 66. Batman was on TV at that time. One tbone player raced on stage between numbers dressed as the caped crusader while certain people played the show theme which ended with "Fatman". JPP didn't see the humourous side of it. Better though was one chart for which he had not memorised the score. Somebody inserted a playboy centrefold into it. For some reason the tuba section got the killer stare - can't imagine why.

Now Glen Cliff Bainum was a true gentleman who had a wily sense of humour. One evening when we were going into his private library...."It would be a lot easier to get the key in the lock if they put some hair around it." Then of course there was FMmmmmmmmm - Fred Miller - just as well forgotten.

Unfortunately, that was cut in the "No Paper Left Behind" initiative...

There have been a lot of problems in the viola section. Sometimes it's even stuck to the bows.

I've blown it up as much as possible and I still can't be sure, but I think it is Charmin 2 ply. What kind of a magnet you could make out of Charmin, I wouldn't have a clue. Nor would I want to hazard a guess.

Maybe Sean or the uber moderator will only lock the two offending posters. This thread has been too interesting for too long to get locked over a couple of idiotic posts.
