defining shank.....

please correct me if I'm wrong:

euro shank = large shank = too big to fit in the yamaha 861 I used to own

american shank = small shank = fit yamaha 861 and mirafones

small shank = really small shank = fits old booseys and bessons..... = "british shank"?
