Smaller Mouthpiece I Can Borrow?

Post by willbrett »

Two questions for ya...

How young is too young?

Anyone got a smaller mouthpiece I can borrow?

I kid, I kid... but it was pretty funny when he tried to hum into it like a harmonica! I'm glad my wife had the camera handy!

I frequently practice with my son in the room. It works out great... he is fascinated with it for a while, then gets bored for a minute or two, then regains his fascination. I can get in a solid 45 minutes or so before he's really over it. He loves to run up and push a valve or two down while I'm playing, and I let him. He's learned the cause and effect situation: Push a valve down, and the sound changes. Surely that's a good thing for a 15 month old to know, right?
At any rate, today was the first time that I let him actually *play* the tuba. I've spent months teaching him how to *buzz*, but never even thought about letting him buzz into the tuba. It was great. We'll have to see how he progresses over the next decade or two. My wife is a bass player (and orchestra teacher), and we constantly debate whether he'll be a brass or string player... Wish me luck!
