I had the "privilege" of hearing that classic tape recording of Buddy berating everyone on a bus ride after some gig. I even learned some new words! He could play, though, even though he was a waste as a human being.

In preparing my taxes on Tuesday this came to light: My home in Las Vegas (in a fabulous neighboorhood BTW) has lost 60% of its 2005 value but my taxes on same said property went up!! This coming in a city that relies on property taxes to fund education and is in the midst of a 128 MILLION dollar shortfall in education for the 2010-2011 school year, a year in which yours truly will make 5-8% less in real earnings from teaching. Am I missing something? You have been updated.

The conversion date has not been set, but according to an anonymous source, it would occur on the 75th anniversary of the founding of the UN.

Update:

I was practicing my bass trombone this afternoon in between my HS band and JH band classes and the slide got away from me. Dropped the outer slide on the raised seating steps in my band room :x All I can say is that fortunately it was only the outer slide and not the whole thing. Bad news is that I have a rehearsal in an hour and 3 services to play on Sunday. Took it to the shop after work and hopefully will get it back tomorrow afternoon. Fortunately I have another trombone and my euphonium to use for the rehearsal tonight.

I made my quota for the month of March (and then some) and qualified for a first-quarter 2010 bonus. I'm going to blow it all at Hickey's Music. Life is good.

Last night I returned from a wonderful weekend long vacation to the Finger Lakes Region of New York. We spent all day Saturday touring and tasting at several wineries on the west side of Seneca Lake and enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery. Saturday night we stayed in a very nice hotel in Watkins Glen at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. Yesterday we made our way up the east side of the lake and had a magnificient meal at Red Newt Bistro which uses all locally produced ingredients (meats, cheeses, veggies, wine, etc.) followed by a few additional stops at more wineries.

The best stop of the day was at Wagner Valley Brewing Co. in Lodi, NY. $1 bought 6 samples of beer and a sample of their draft root beer. I couldn't leave Wagner Valley without purchasing their delicious Doppelbock (8.5% abv) and their Trippelbock Reserve (10% abv) - both of which go down smoother than water. If you ever find yourself in the area I highly recommend stopping by for a taste!!

Not that I would be in the market for one soon, but the biggest red flag for me is the lack of external ports for media cards or any USB device. I could see the appeal if it could plug into a docking station to be a full-service desktop (and replace my existing desktop). Without the ability to do that, to me it doesn't make sense. The goal ought to be FEWER devices, not more. Right, or am I way off track here?

We just got one of these at work. I had a chance to play around on one for as long as I wanted. To me it seemed awkward. It didn't know if it was a netbook or an iphone. The typing wasn't quite as awkward as I thought it might be. Unless you are perfect with your fingers I can't imagine lining up my fingers with the home keys and typing like normal.

If I was to spend MY money on a highly mobile device that can do more than a phone, I would go netbook. It is cheaper, more robust, has a physical keyboard, widescreen, can run most of my current software (100% of which is free), FLASH, etc.

You're right - I think this is the case for most "new" gadgets. And most never make it past the "sucker" version.
