1. Yes
2. Depends, does it work for you. I've had a Monette 98 (traded it for a 95) and use a 94F on my F. I used the 98 on my Rudy CC but the G&W Bayamo sounds better. I traded it for a 95 to use on my Weril, but a Bobo Symphonic sounds better. On my F, however, the 94F sounds great but I can also use a Bobo Solo or a RM9. If a $350 Monette or a $30 Kellyberg makes you sound like a million $$, use what works for you and your horn.

I own a 98 and a 94F. I haven't used anything else since I swiched to Monette. I think they are excellent. It's true that they are different, they do have a tendency to require you to play a certain way, I can't really explain it, but I like it. I'll sell you my 98 because I want to get a 99. $200.

hey tim,
what is the 99, I didn't think it was out yet. Do you know the specs. (just curious, I don't plan on buying any monettes).

it's a shallower version of the 98 for CC tubas. More bowl-shaped same as 98 but shallower. It's available now.

Call Dillon Music and ask about their return policy on Monette mouthpieces, I know they have return policy on other mouthpieces.

Chen has the specs right.

The 99 has been out for a while...I got one from Dillon Music about a year and half ago. I played on it for a few months and decided that it wasn't for me and sold it. I'm not totally sure what to say about how it sounded when I played on it..."sandy" is the best way I can describe it.

Being worth the money totally depends on the person and their results. I don't know anyone (regardless of if they like them or not) that wouldn't say they are expensive.
