GOOD gig bag for Willson 3100?
Looking for input from some Willson owners (or anyone else with a big, heavy, front action tuba). What is a VERY high quality, well made gig bag for a Willson 3100 FA5? Its about 38 inches tall with a 20" bell. This tuba is extremely heavy so I want something that can support it without the straps tearing eventually. Thanks

Hi John,
I don't know were you live, but mr.Tuba from the UK can make a good quality gigbag at your specs for you. You can contact him throught his website. Hope this helps.

I've had a reunion blues (cronkite) for my 3050 CC (same outer dimensions as the 3100) for the past 14 years. No complaints. Its gotten wet with no break down of the padding and the strps are very strong. Mine is of the cordura variety but I wish I had opted for the leather.

Ditto. I have a Cronkhite cordura bag for my Marzan. It is VERY well made, and you get what you pay for. I'm actually contemplating saving a few more pennies and buying a Cronkhite bag for my Cerveny as well. Great stuff.
Oh, and I also recently learned that Glenn makes mouthpiece pouches as well. Nothing too fancy, looks like they're made out of leather scraps from making bags. But they're only like $7 too!

Thanks..I used a Reunion Blues bag a LONG time ago (but for a smaller 3/4 Conn) and I'm happy with their quality..I will check and see if their newer ones are as good. I will definitely look into the Cronkhite bags too since they seem to be so popular for many people with large tubas on here. THANKS!

THANKS! I believe I'm definitely going with CronkhiteStauff wrote:Tubajohn, we need to be clear on one thing - the current production of Reunion Blues gig bags are NOT Cronkhite made. Glenn Cronkhite started Reunion Blues many years ago based in San Francisco. The current distribution (not production) comes from Ace Products Group out of Petaluma, CA. The catalog lists four basic sizes;
17.5" bell - 18.5" bell - CC 17.5" bell, 38.5" height - 19" bell, 35" height
All sizes available in either leather, or "Ballistic Fabric" (?). I'm under the understanding that the current RB product is all imported. Glenn Cronkhite bags are still made to FIT your tuba. Probably cost more......and there's a reason for that! Just don't think that the current Reunion Blues products are the same as what you experienced with your old Conn 3/4. FWIW.
