I really love old Prussian Military marches, my favorite of those is Die Koeniggratzer, and Der Grosse Kuerfuersten Reitermarsch
Prokofiev's- March Op.99.
Karl King-Melody Shop, Barnum and Bailey's Favorite, Robinson's Grand Entry
Henry Fillmore-Circus Bee, Rolling Thunder
John C. Heed-In Storm and Sunshine
Meyerbeer- Coronation March from the Prophet (Brass Band Transcription)
and several others, but those are those ones off the top of my head.

Guys- I am sure that most of you know about this, but if you feel the need to revisit any of these aforementioned great marches , many can be found at http://www.bandmusicpdf.org" target="_blank . Copyrights have expired and this site is the compilation effort of The Royalton , Ohio Community band . Nice job by them to preserve a great deal of our musical heritage . Hey- they are still trying to fill in alot of blanks( missing parts and scores ) , but there library has maybe 1000 complete pieces and it continues to grow- - maybe we can help....jamsav

It's been over 50 years since I played it, but I fondly remember The Chicago Tribune March by William Chambers.

Here is a good version but i don't hear anything really "Kick butt" in the tuba part...
That's the right tune. Could be a less than perfect recording or tiny computer speakers, but it is a great tuba part.
Tubas sounded kinda puny and restrained; not like the old Marine Band I knew.

The Melody Shop.

'nough said. Any march written with the intention of the euphonium part being "too hard to play" is good in my book. That being said, it definitely shows the advancement of players overall since it was written. While fun, it is far from "too hard to play".

Laridah Marsch, Max Hempel (1877-1959)
great peformance of this German march on youtube by the Russian Defense Ministry Band. Good shots of the tubas and euphs plus a flute player that reminds me of Comrade Brezhnev

Talk about irony. . .

My dad, a Polish army officer in WWII, spent most of the war in a Nazi POW camp. He played horn in the camp orchestra. He once told me that the Komandant loved to hear Sousa marches, including "Stars & Stripes Forever"

He also told me that everytime the "Horstwessel" was "requested", someone always "forgot" what the key signature was.

The closer we approach the human root level, the lesser we see sophistication. This run rather than a march catches me, but it isn’t far above our reptile basic instincts:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0kBETseDmQ

And they make a good show emitting insane amounts energy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CYOeLEwT0U

Normally they use valve trombones, but here there use slide bones and the bass one displays some balls.

Part 2:

Can’t hear the horns. Doesn’t matter. Still speak to my reptile level.
