Good, portable 25-key MIDI controller?

Post by The Jackson »

Greetings, fellow TubeNetizens,

I know there is a number of you folks out there that are really knowledgeable about music technology, so hopefully I can be steered in the right direction here. I am on the hunt for a 25-key MIDI controller. At the very least, I would be using this controller with Sibelius 6 and, most likely, Pro Tools 8 LE. This keyboard will be needed around campus when I go to college next semester, so it will have to be portable and easily stowable in a medium-sized backpack. I would prefer it to be a USB device. Those are basically all the parameters!

The school has recommended two such controllers, the Korg nanoKEY and the Akai LPK25.

I greatly look forward to any and all recommendations, suggestions, tips, etc.. Many thanks!

You also couldn't go wrong with the Akai. We use it in our band and really like it. The software that comes with it provides a lot of different options for sounds, etc. I'd imagine it would fit into a daypack just fine.
