New Matt Walters creation!!
Hi all -
Yesterday, I visited my friends at Dillon Music and got the opportunity to play Matt Walters' latest creation. OH MY GOD!!! This new CC tuba is amazing!! It looks like the typical York/Meinl Weston/YorkBrunner/Nirschl - type of instrument - 4 pistons and the rotary 5th. The differences are that it feels very balanced and the sound is wonderful - very even top to bottom. Killer low register and the sound holds together at the extremes. He's talking about making 2 a year. Pics will be taken later this week. FANTASTIC!!

I'll second Scott on this one. WOW!!! Matt's horn is easy to play, has a warm sound, even throughout and very open on the low register. It has awesome intonation and very quick reponse. A great buy for someone who wants an exceptional BAT.
Besides Matt's creation, the store has a pretty decent stock instruments right now. The gold brass miraphone 188 is great, and the Donatelli CC is phenomenal!!!

HI-
If the new Matt creation is anything like the Lyon & Healy CC 6/4 that Don Harry is using and is owned by Mike Lynch, it will be a mind blowing horn!
BTW, how many times did I post on this forum that the Donatelli CC tuba was terrific--someone will get a great horn...
Regards-

Re: New Matt Walters creation!!
I tried the new Dillon CC on Saturday.
Wow, it's got just about everything anyone would want in a horn. Great resonance, character, and intonation. Plays big, but feels small. I was particularly impressed with the lightness and comfort ability of the instrument.
My two cents,
Frank Ortega

Re: New Matt Walters creation!!
What does it really matter who made the parts? I'm sure Matt wants the horn to be viewed and played as a whole, finished product. What parts manufacturer he uses should matter little. Also, I'm pretty sure that Matt is confident that this is a good instrument. If it was not it probably would not see the light of day.
I would imagine that the parts used are good parts. I don't think Matt would spend all that time and effort (only 2 a year!!!) building a tuba out of crap. Using new, available parts is a great idea due to the fact that he can produce the exact same instrument at a later date. Only so many old bells and bows anymore. If he found something that works that can be made again, more power to him.
