What's the key/pitch range of a Getzen Contra-Bass Bugle?

Post by UTSAtuba »

Ok. I have one of those small, old crappy ones in G (one piston, one rotary), and am going to attempt some surgery. I know they're in the key of G, but is that a minor third below BBb tubas? Anyone know the pitch range of one of these things?

Thanks in advance.

Accurate to about 1000 yards.

If it is an on-the-shoulder instrument, it most likely is in G a minor third below the BBb tubas. However there are some quite impressive super-sized flugelhorn types, which are in G a minor third below the Bb euphonium.

Were/are there contra bugles in G with a bore different from 0.689"?

Why? I'm not going to use it as a GG Bugle...

The bugle doesn't look long enough to be in GG. Here's a good pic of it below:

Most contras sounds rather stuffy...the only one I've ever played that didn't was an old King that had had a third valve grafted on from a donor horn.

if you cut all that crap out of the middle, you might have a decent small bore F or Eb bass tuba, if you could find a decent valve set to cut down and match. I would give it a shot if I came across one (for CHEAP).
