I agree 100 percent. we used to use it to make 'punch' for parties in college....two gallons koolaid, 5lbs ice, 250 ml bottle of 'clear. we could mix it up even when totally loaded....keep the party rock'n....the elephant wrote:Everclear is moonshine, legally produced. It is 95% pure grain alcohol, making it 190 proof. It is not a "beverage" by any means. It is purely a mixer, to be used very sparingly. Unless you are an idiot tuba player like me...

Everclear is not moonshine because it lacks essential elements--the direct result of government bureaucrats in black overstepping the rights of consumers and overregulating one of Mother Nature's most preferred pain relievers.
True moonshine, during manufacture, is condensed using recycled, earth-friendly, solder-assembled truck and bus radiators, which are a valuable source of lead, tin, and antimony--elements proven to be essential for permanent calming and lifelong stress reduction.

Re: What are YOU drinking right now?
Very true, and I know from first hand experience. During the summer of 1979 I attended Brevard Music Center. The college guys were still ensconced on old boys hill just off the dining hall. This is were I met Charley Vernon's brother Billy, who was a MARVELOUS trombone player in his own right. Billy hailed from the Mars Hill area and knew just about every backroad and dive in said area. A few of us were sitting around on Saturday afternoon and Billy asked us to throw a buck in a piece and he would be back in an a couple of hours. A couple hours later he showed up with a plastic milk jug full of the real thing. It was pure heaven, smooth but with a bit of a kick. Needless to say most of us were helplessly drunk after a few pulls.Dean E wrote:Everclear is not moonshine
The one SALIENT thing I remember is having the most MONUMENTAL hangover I have ever experienced in my life, worse than a Soju experience at Pollies on the Hill. If you have been there, you will know what I mean.
Everclear is pisswater compared to the real thing. Moonshine is GREAT.

Oakshire Brewery winter ale "Ill Tempered Gnome". One of the best winter brews ever, and how I missed this 20 oz bottle in my fridge I have NO CLUE, but was delighted to find it tonight!

Re: What are YOU drinking right now?
A good freind was once a regional manager in Atlanta for a Back East insurance company who sent home office people to visit on a regular basis. One such visitor noticed a pint jar of clear liquid on the bookshelf behind his desk and inquired about it. My friend said it was white lightnin' that a client had given him and the home office type had to have a shot. Long story short the day's business was over and a very drunk company officer was put on the plane home nearly unable to walk. The next guy to come down hadn't gotten to the office before he was asking about the white lightnin'. Charlie sent him home with the last pint he had as his client was now in Federal Prison for moonshinin'. For years he kept an unmarked pint jar of Everclear on the boookshelf for his out of town guests, who fought over the chance to come visit Georgia and get some real moonshine. Sometimes it's really just about the hype!Chuck Jackson wrote:Everclear is pisswater compared to the real thing. Moonshine is GREAT.Dean E wrote:Everclear is not moonshine

Back on topic. I opened a very nice bottle of white wine last night. I can hardily reccomend any wine from Chateau Ste. Michelle, Columbia Valley, Washington State. Every wine I have tasted from there is superb and a superb value. Last night's was a $7.49 bottle of Reisling with steamed shrimp, brie and crackers. Delightful!

Yeah, I kinda knew what I was getting into when I tried it. I don't really like mixed drinks and thought "Hey if Ima gonna drink then Ima gonna drink it." Lit me on fire, bad idea. I like my sipping drinks not the cheap, nasty "I just want to get drunk and slap a hoe" drinks. Though I do like finding bargains. I feel like the young old man of my college peers.

There is a neighbor of mine who has a "Fat Tire" sticker on his car. The guy looks like he has never ridden a bike in his life. This explains a lot.
Although I don't typically consume alcohol, I have heard that this is top quality on a reasonable budget:

Re: What are YOU drinking right now?
Useless trivia for the day about the origin of the name "Fat Tire." The founder had quit his job and went to Belgium for a summer (or year, or something) to learn all about beer. He was big into biking, and brought his mountain bike with him. All of the bikers in Belgium had road bikes, and used to tease him about the "fat tires" on his bike.MartyNeilan wrote:There is a neighbor of mine who has a "Fat Tire" sticker on his car.

Goin to Colorado soon, gonna be a dental floss tycoon.
My sister is getting married in July. She plays with the Symphony in Denver. Wedding will be in Boulder. One of the wedding party get togethers will be "Twisted Pine Brewery" ...I don't know the origin of the name.
If you ever are in need of an elixir to cure altitude sickness - the expresso stout is a sure cure. Also, the sample tastings are huge. Highly recommended.

Denver and Boulder are both awesome. Cool mountains, great beer, and the people aren't jackasses.
Life doesn't need much more than that. I'm jealous of your July escape from NYC to the mountains!

Picked up a `growler' of pale ale this afternoon from the local brewery, about 5 blocks from my house. Nice way to buy beer, by the jug, and nice beer too - full, rich, aromatic.
