They announced at the membership meeting that final details on the 2012 ITEC were being worked out and should be announced in the next week. Rumor mill is that it will be outside the US.

Cool. I like it when "international" things are actually international. Out of North America would be even cooler.

you obviously haven't been to ANY such conferences in the last decade. The ONLY tune used to close such events is a waddling version of "Them Basses". Rolling Thunder......geez....that's SO last century!

Event coordinators will be Mayan priests who will usher in the official resetting of the Mayan Long Count calandar to 00:00:00. As the world ends in flames and explosions the conference will conclude with an ensemble of participants and local "banda" sousaphonists playing "Rolling Thunder," followed by a special arrangement of the overture to "La Forza del Destino," at which point all life on the planet will cease.
So, The Elephant is also discretely letting the Tubenet crowd know that this could be one of the cheapest “international” gatherings yet as only a one-way ticket is required. Book now!

(BTW, bravo -- one of the finer tongue-in-cheek posts I've read here in a while...)

It's on the ITEA webpage now:

Linz, Austria
June 25-30, 2012

As quoted:
"ITEC 2012 Linz, Austria
Posted on Tue, 29 Jun 2010 15:47:19

ITEA is delighted to announce that the 2012 International Tuba Euphonium Conference will be held in the city of Linz, Austria, from June 25 to June 30. The venue for the conference will be the famous Brucknerhaus set on the banks of the River Danube. The host for the conference is the Landesmusikdirektion of Upper Austria and the Artistic Director will be Steven Mead.

More details will follow in the coming months! We will look forward to seeing you in Europe for what promises to be a musically dynamic conference."
