Awesome! How does it play?

(wondering how many "make me one, how much will it cost?" emails Harv will get now :))

I won't send you any "make me one" emails, but I am curious how you knew this valve set would work with this body, and what other valve sets work with what other bodies.

That King valve section is only a few thousanths off of the original Yamaha valve section. It's pretty much a 'natural' conversion. I built one very much like this one last fall.

King valve sections (.688" bore) are reasonably plentiful and are a convenient size to work with.

I'm very intrigued by both of these conversions. I play a YEB 321 with a fifth valve added by Ron Partch (Toronto) about fifteen years ago. The fifth valve on it is off the third valve- essentially doubling the length of the third valve. It has turned out to be a great quintet horn.

The only challenge is the ergonomics. We stand most of the time and it is challenging- even with a harness.

I wonder if the front valves would be easier on the back, shoulder, ...

Congrats on the work!

Yep, the Tinker built a horn just about like that one for me a while back. I can say without hesitation that, for me, it is better than anything on the market. Great, even sound through all registers - great pitch - nimble, but robust.

If you're interested in how it sounds, the Daylight at Midnight track by Dana Wilson on the Emerald Brass Quintet myspace was performed on this Eb (and a Blokepiece!):

And here is one of my first performances on the horn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vCUmmqCZvs" target="_blank

Anyway, I'm a happy camper.

Ok, stupid question from the not gifted in franken-horn creation....Why can you not use the valve section from the 321 and just redirect the tubing? Also, what can be done with the YEB valves?
