All of these concerti knock me out: Brahms; Tchaikovsky; Sibelius; Barber; Korngold.
Also, the exposed solo violin passages in R. Strauss' Ein Heldenlieben. And, the J.S. Bach Sonatas and Partitas for unaccompanied violin are monumental and timeless in their appeal.
Too many others to list.

I love the Sibelius Concerto, it is definitely my personal favorite. But I'm pretty partial for Sibelius' works

Meditation from Thais and the Bach double violin concerto, both which I have written out for tuba.
(I used to hear my daughter practicing these two all the time and I just had to learn to play them myself. I couldn't let her show up the old man....)

"La lontananza nostalgica utopica futura" by Luigi Nono. Although that might be hard to pull off on tuba. I'm also a big fan of Heinrich Ignaz Biber's Mystery Sonatas, which might be a little more manageable. If we're willing to extend the original question to viola works, then I'll include both the Prologue to Gerard Grisey's "Les acoustiques" and Morton Feldman's "The Rothko Chapel", one of my all-time favorite pieces of music. Do yourself a favor--get a nice pair of headphones, load up the Feldman piece and lay back on your couch with your eyes closed and listen. It's transcendent.
To those who are fans of Bach's violin partitas, I highly suggest the concert DVD of Gidon Kremer practicing and performing the set. One of the perks of the DVD is that you get to see that even the best musicians out there make a mistake from time to time!
Here's the DVD.

Re: What are your favorite violin works?
Bach Double Violin Concerto works GREAT for Tuba and Euphonium, especially with a chamber ensemble accompaniment.

Danse Macabre by Saint-Saens - not exactly a violin solo, but close enough... beautiful.
And the Sibelius violin concerto.

I never realized how emotional (based on your choices) the people on this forum are until now.

Re: What are your favorite violin works?
There is really some fantastic solo music written for the violin. The Sibelius concerto is probably my favourite, but I wouldn't dream about playing it on the tuba. Such ideas only add to the general opinion that the tuba should stay in the back of the orchestra, because there is no way that you could give justice to a great violin work, no matter how good you play it, with a tuba. There is good solo music for us as well, that wouldn't be possible to play on the violin. Play those pieces instead, and do the community a favour.
Or maybe I'm doubting my instruments capabilities.

"The Hot Canary" by Paul Nero.
This has been done by David Childs and if you're looking for something with a little tongue and cheek, this could be a great change of pace in the recital.

I really like the Walton Concerto. I wish it was played more frequently. If you can find one of the Ida Haendel recordings of it, I think they are quite special.
