Drink Miller High Life!!!

Post by Chuck Jackson »

I know most of you cringe at the thought of drinking this vaunted Miller product(I LOVE Miller High Life Light), but please do and then take the bottle tops back to the retailer. Miller will donate $.10 for every top turned back in to a fund for our troops overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. TIA.

If the fund is there, I'd rather donate $4.99 to it and then buy another beer.

Cool idea, but High Life ain't for me.

Here is how fickle tastes are. When I started college in the Fall of 1978 in Syracuse, Miller High Life was considered a higher end beer (Coors was hard to find and at $6.00 a 6 pack prohibitively expensive). It cost $2.19 a six pack when local beers like Genessee, Utica Club, Peils, and Matts was going for $1.29 a six pack.

Today you can find Miller High Life for sale (not ON SALE)for $5.99 a 12 pack. Utica Club is a designer beer in Upstate NY (why, I have NO idea, it really is AWFUL), I bought a 6 pack for $5.99 in Syracuseafter quite a hunt. For that price you could score almost TWO cases of the stuff when it was on sale (often) in 1978. Buying beer in bulk was, and still is, a big thing at "home". We had "ice boxes" in garages for that very reason.

I love Miller High Life, it brings me back to a simpler time of pretzels, COLD BEER (with 20 lb BLOCKS of ice and water in a big tin bucket), baseball on the radio (in my neighboor in Rome, NY EVERYONE had the Yankees games on VERY loud while they sat outside drinking beer and visiting), and cool evenings. I figure I'll drink it for the guys who serve, that I like it is an added bonus.
