Are you talking about the mysteriously disappeared Allen Vizzutti thread? I guess I missed the "bad" stuff...better off that way maybe.

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

UPDATE:
I'm pleased to (finally be able to) announce that I'm the new Adjunct Instructor of Jazz Studies at Oklahoma State University. Anyone who wants to get their piano or bass jazz chops together, give me a call!

Todd, congratulations!!
My update -- I really *really* want to go back to Rocky Mountain National Park. Been about 3 years since I was there, and damn, it was awesome.

According to Wiki he was a sax player. He and Slick Willie could play duets maybe.SRanney wrote:Woah! What was his gig? Any idea?bloke wrote:Robert Gibbs, Obama's press secretary, worked on the staff at Interlochen (Academy and summer camp) in the early 1990's.

Is it bad that watching The Wire makes me miss my hometown? Granted, the whole city isn't like that. Not even close. But man, after 27 years of that, it seems weird as anything to be away from it.

Re: Update Update
Since the King is in the shop, I am using a three valve Miraphone. This is a nice little horn, I am enjoying playing it. I will be very critical of the King when I play it. Sure wish I could have played my tubas before I made a purchase. I feel the same way about car purchases. I wish I could drive them for five hours and evaluate how I feel afterwards before I make a selection.
Have a good weekend, you've been updated.

Re: Update Update
UPDATE:
Heading to Quartz Mountain in the morning. Nice gig...5 days and nights in a beautiful resort area...5 rehearsals and a concert in which I only play the outer movements of Dvorak 8 (and there's not even much to play there). Being a tuba player is good...very good.

Re: Update Update
Update 1:
So, we had about 6 inches of sag on our living room ceiling (which is part of the roof) during Snowmageddon. Drywall cracks caused us to explore further, and today we removed a section of drywall to put eyes on the rafter. The rafters are 2x12 Douglas Fir, #2, except for one of them, which had an included knot on the bottom edge. Yup, that knot split, and the bottom half of the rafter is cracked, right in the center of an 18-foot span. The only thing holding that rafter up was the sheathing on the roof side tying it to its neighbors, and the drywall on the ceiling side.
Next step is to build scaffolding in the room, remove another big piece of drywall, jack up the rafter to close the crack and level it up with its neighbors, install 1/2" plywood splice plates on both sides of the rafter (nailed every two inches), and then replace the drywall.
Update 2:
Could be worse. During Sunday's storm (which has left people still without power), we had the tops of two 80-foot Eastern White Pine trees next to the house come down. Fortunately, they broke about 30 feet up, so that only the top 50 feet of the trees came down. These trees were 50 feet from the house. The boughs at the very top of the trees just grazed the house on the way down. Except for the certain death of a cypress bush and the probably death of a dogwood tree, both of which were in the line of fire, there was no damage. Spent my day off yesterday singing,
"Oh.....I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay..."
Had the trees broken at the next crown down the trunk, the crack in one rafter would have been the least of our problems.
Update 3:
On Saturday, we drove up to Reading, PA, to watch the Sauerkrauts perform at the Reading Liederkranz's 125th anniversary celebration. The Sauerkrauts are led by Gary Trumet, a tuba player and Eastman grad who now plays whatever instrument comes to hand, from tuba to cowbells, and their tuba player is none other than TubaRay of this forum. Good time had by all.
Update 4:
Air conditioning people coming this afternoon to replace the expansion valve that may be causing our new Carrier hybrid heat system to stop refrigerating every couple of months or so.

Re: Update Update
Had my last concert of the summer last night, so my "F tuba boot camp" is now over. I spent the last 2 months almost exclusively on F tuba to get "up to speed" and learn the new fingerings and the new instrument. Overall it went very well, and SO happy that I finally picked up an F tuba this year.

Summer band program is now over. Concert was tonight, and the kids sounded great. No more work for me until September 1.

Summer Heat
We are now into the second week of extreme heat on the Northern Plains. After continuous rainfall for the months of May and June which has caused millions of dollars worth of damage to individuals and the agricultural sector, our daily temperatures have been in the high eighties and nineties. This is the weather everyone wants in January at -40 degrees!, so why is everyone still complaining about it? TundraTubist, what say you about the weather to the south of the province of Saskatchewan?

Re: Update Update
Yeh Roughtrider,we had the 95's plus the tornados, several days of torrential rains @4-6" each day, which of course caused the humidity to soar. But, the most notable event as always, is the gynormous increase in our state bird, the "Mosquito". They love the standing water, and we have plenty.
The most important update at this time is; Drum roll please. It's time to depart for Adult Band Camp, I'm off to the beautiful, International Peace Gardens, for four days of total bliss. Tent camping in the Gardens, Concert Band, Brass Band, an ensemble or two, some "Southern Jazz Style", German Polka-Oompah playing at the local nurses station, "Kelvin Clinic" with a few adult beverages, and of course to reunite with the Canadian friends once again.
