Al Barthlow

Post by Dan Schultz »

This guy was a trombone player but he could just as well have been a great tuba player. He retired from playing with The Dukes of Dixieland and other groups in New Orleans and settled back into the Evansville, Indiana area a few years ago and began playing with me in several groups around here including the community band I founded ten years ago. He was very active on the jazz scene in New Orleans in the 80's and early 90's. Some of you guys may have known him. Al passed away Tuesday morning and was buried in Cadiz, Kentucky on Friday. Not a note was played at his funeral except for 'taps' on one of those electronic bugles. Charles 'Al' Barthlow was 79 years old.
