I haven’t experienced this with the said sort of case. However I from German eBay bought a gig bag for my oval Kaisers, which arrived in a sealed plastic bag. When I tore that plastic bag, I was met with a chemical stench, which was very bad for my asthma.

I placed the gig bag in a well vented room and it rather soon lost its stench.

The key to solving your problem is venting the OPEN case in a place, where the evaporation of chemicals does not affect your breathing apparatus. The higher the temperature (below flammable), the drier the air, and the faster the shift of air, the faster the stench will go away.

The college's cases were left in the sun once and the inner foam padding all slid about an inch in one direction
That must be about the glue becoming soft and gravity causing the sliding.
