NY Phil Tannhauser Video w/ Fred Geib 1926
Sorry if this has already been posted but I just found this video on YouTube of the New York Philharmonic under Henry Hadley playing the Overture to Tannhauser in 1926!

There are many shots where you can see and hear Fred Geib with his bell-front tuba. I don't know if there is any other film/video where you can see him in action.
Enjoy!

Definitely an EEb, but someone else would be better suited to name the make. The bald trumpet player directly in front of him is none other than Max Schlossberg. A wonderful piece of history and a fine recording.TubaTodd wrote:King Eb??

Since he was born in 1929, I'm gonna say no.

Honestly, the wrap that was visible looked to be "bare" enough to be an EEb. Went back and watched the fingerings on the last big Chorale and tip my hat to Robert. He was using CC fingers. That was a very small CC, but sounded good even by the recording standards of the day.DP wrote:Hey Chuck! Why definitely an "EEflat"??
Glad to see you back Dale!!!

This is a real treasure. There are a few 78 rpm recordings (some now on CD), but I know of no other video of Mr. Geib's playing. Thanks Frank.

It's a full size CC, but a small bell flare : )
That was a wonderful way to start the day!! Delightful piece of history!
