BBC Proms screen shots

Post by Wyvern »

I have been watching a few of the BBC Proms from the Royal Albert Hall, London on-line and out of interest have made some screen shots of the tubas being played which I share for those of you outside the UK who cannot watch.

Information as to the model of tuba and player would be interesting where I have not specified, or to confirm!

I will post more picture as the season goes on and i watch more :)

Australian Youth Orchestra playing Shostokovich 10. Is that a Yorkbrunner? Anyone know the tubist?

Definitely a Yorkbrunner. Can't say I know the name of the tubist though.

I've downloaded many of the 2010 Proms videos (as I'm in Canada and can't watch them live) from this site:

You need a torrent client to download these (uTorrent, BitTorrent) but it's totally worth it! Some really great concerts!

It looks almost like Dylan King playing his Yorkbrunner, but not if that was the Australian Youth Symphony.

I heard a broadcast on Performance Today two weeks ago, and heard the BBCSO playing Zimmermans "Rhine Church Festival Dances." Some truly amazing tuba playing by Sam Elliot!

Here's video of the WOP playing Mahler, with Pokorny playing something that at least could be the CSO York:

The Australian Youth Orchestra tuba player is Mark Shearn, playing a Yorkbrunner. A fine player who is staying in Europe after their tour to study in Germany. Good luck Mark!

Looks like they have all of Mahler's 5th on YouTube by the "World Orchestra for Peace". Very well done! The camera work is good too where they focus in on many of the soloists. Below are links to the movements... hopefully in order.

World Orchestra intro:

1st Mvt.

2nd Mvt.

3rd Mvt. (part 1)

3rd Mvt (cont.)

4th Mvt. Adagietto

Finale
Miraphone 5050 - Warburton BJ/RF mpc
YEP-641S (recently sold), DE mpc (102 rim; I-cup; I-9 shank)
Symphonic Band of the Palm Beaches:
"Always play with a good tone, never louder than lovely, never softer than supported." - author unknown.
