Water-damaged cases

Post by Northern »

Floodwaters came into the basement several weeks ago. There is some damage to the outside of the wooden cases. Little damage to the synthetic plastic, apoxy cases but the problem is the interior of the cases. I tried drying out the interior of the cases but am still getting the mold/rot smell. Any suggestions for people or companies who specialize in replacing/cleaning/repairing water-damaged cases, especially the insides? Thanks. Cheers, Northern

There is a de-stankification spray called Ozium. I once left a gallon of milk in the trunk of my old '85 Volvo for over a month once in the summer. Used some Ozium, after getting it cleaned up, and the smell was gone. Car dealers use it to remove cigarette and cigar smells. I also think its used by crime scene cleanup crews as well, for a myriad of reasons i'm sure. It certainly does the job. :D

Thanks for your replies and helpful suggestions. I have tried some of these but obviously did not take them to the extent that I probably should have. Back to the backyard. Re. the CSO York, it goes in for a professional cleaning, alignment and greasing usually once a year and that happens to be in NYC where Wayne Tanabe now works. He was the major zookeeper of the instrument when he had his shop in the Chicago area. I go out in the backyard with the York a couple times a year for a hosing and sometimes downstairs at Orchestra Hall when the weather gets too cold outside. Thanks for asking and thanks to all for the suggestions. Cheers, Gene aka Northern
