Do anyone now the history of the Tornister (backpack) tuba from Cerveny?
I have been told that it was made for the Austrian-Hungarian military bands around 1900, but have not been able to verify this.
I am also very interested in pictures of the bands using this instrument, and would be very happy if someone has a link to a photo

Are you sure the shown sample is in F? The very long 2nd loop rather would indicate BBb.
Never saw any photos of them played in period bands. Some months ago there was a YouTube-link for a Russian jazz band using one. It was amplified and sounded very efficient.

The tuba is in Bb - with the main slide tube slightly modified to play with modern tuning.
It`s also surprisingly good to play - of course a bit narrow on the low E
I saw the youtube clip - I think this was a modern version of Tornister, but not sure.

I think this is the new production BBb version. If the price was not quite so high (and if I had a chance to play a BBb without a trip to Germany) I might be interested in one!
He has the style perfectly, with his articulations, inflections, setting up the chord changes, etc. This should be a video that all young aspiring tuba players of jazz, dixieland, ragtime, trad jazz, etc., should listen to.

Those Russians do a pretty darn good job playing American music!
