Stuck Piston - Tech Question

Post by Z-Tuba Dude »

To any of you tech guys out there:

My 1st piston valve is frozen solid. My plan is to use a 3/4" wooden dowel & a rubber mallet.

My question is this: is it in any way dangerous to the valve, if I tap gently on the wooden dowel, fom the bottom of the valve, to hopefully free up the piston?

Thanks!

Be careful... I have gotten two horns with valves colasped from the bottom up caused by people trying this! The plug in the bottom of the valve is only designed to support spring pressure.

You can take it to a reliable repairman now and probably only spend a few bucks. If you fool with it yourself.... it's probably gonna cost you a lot more money to get it fixed.

Thank you, Guys.

On reflection, a calmer head prevailed...I will be taking it to a repair shop.

Thanks for the sage (thyme?) advice!

Now, listen up, everybody, the entire TNFJ will lead, and everyone else will sing along to that wonderful sing-along song that has been made famous world-wide, and sung to the tune of the William Tell Overture, and which Z-tuba has now joined the grand chorus:

OK, now, everyone together!
Ah-one and ah-two...

To the tech
To the tech
To the tech, tech tech!
