Glad also to hear you no longer pack a gun. A knife with a short blade and saw edge that also locks open is a great tool for scraping and turning screws and gives a man a small measure of security.

I no longer carry my firearm when I go out. I wouldn't want to be arrested for carrying.

Sad that you cannot protect yourself legally. Did you ever attempt to get a carry permit?

Make sure you carry some for of defensive weapon though, and practi ce with it often. These guys are likey to get drunk or high one night and decide to "settle the score". Be prepared and stay wary. Sucks, but such is life.

1.) Yes. The population of the city proper in the summer of 2009 was about 3.8 million. The entire metro area is over 9 million.

2.) The population has gone up.

3.) The increase is estimated to be between 4-5%. The city is none other than the original inspiration for this thread: El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río de Porciúncula.

This is an interesting tool. Works for my (home) city, since it's an independent city and not part of the surrounding county. This is an interesting view of how the people (and problems) are leaving the city for the county. A big to-do down in Bawlmer.

The U.S. Constitution doesn't stand for "respect" nor "equal respect"; It stands for individuals' rights.

The meanings of respect as verb and noun are oddly mismatched, even in my dictionary (copyright 1947, hopefully not as tainted by newfangled ideas.) In the sentence quoted above, I take the meaning from the verb, since that's how it's introduced. First definition:

1. to avoid injuring, offending or tempting; as, to respect his innocence;

So, inasmuch as the Constitution may guarantee individuals' rights to certain pursuits, including among others religion, it respects those pursuits. At its best, America has taken this attitude to heart as a culture.

Going full circle here, those who insisted on amending the U.S. Constitution with a "Bill of Rights" knew that neither the government nor the Constitution gave men the rights defined therein. Rather, from a previous document (the document which officially announced the commencement of the nation) they stated very plainly that they held...

...these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

The Bill of Rights simply goes into more detail as with what the Creator has endowed unto us.
