I took my tuba and I'm proud you say....I am band geek again. I am a member a "small" community band in the Ft. Myers area playing tuba. In the 2 hour session, I played like a fish out of water, but I felt wonderful. This is not a grade 5-6 music selections, but it will give me some chops and confetation(sp?). As I leaving for the night, 2 members stopped me and told me that they need me to play in a smaller "jazz" band and a German band. It felt good that they need me.

Got to practice....concert is in 4 weeks...

It is a great feeling to play again.Had not played in 40 yrs,bought new horn(cervany 686 pxr) and play with local comm. college band so I know the thrill!!! Being from small town in mo. just wish more opportunities were available. GOOD Luck and enjoy!!! jds

I got that thrill last January. Now I'm in another band and felt I had to turn a third one down. I do still work for a living, after all.

(The biggest problem for me has been being satisfied with an instrument that makes financial sense in light of my current ability and that of the bands I'm in. I could seriously compromise my retirement for the sake of really cool tubas. So far I haven't. I hope my self-discipline holds, especially in the face of all these 345s for sale at the moment.)

Congratulations! I returned to playing tuba about fifteen years ago after laying off for thirty years. Best thing I ever did!

No matter what grade the music is.... the important thing is that each note be in-tune, on-time, and articulated as called for. With that in mind... no music is easy.

I see you are playing a Conn 4J. Those are good horns. Hows the pitch of anything played using the 4th valve? The ones I've seen usually required a little 'surgery' to raise the pitch of the 4th valve circuit.
