I bought a 2001 Honda Accord that was in very good running condition except for the transmission. I did not notice this when I was test driving it. It seems that these Accords are notorious for their Sh****y, slipping trannys. What I want to know is what can I do now? I've been told it's not repairable and replaceing it with a rebuilt is not much of a solution either. I don't know if this will make of a difference but I'm gonna replace the transmisson fluid and fliter this weekend.
Who here has some good advice about how I can keep the car without losing my rear on getting the transmission problem solved?

I wish you lived around here where I do. I could refer you to a great tranny shop that for a reasonable price would have you on your way. I had them work on an old Tempo tranny that had been overstressed towing trailers it really shouldn't have, and would kick your butt every time it wanted to shift. For a couple hundred, they had it as smooth as new pavement. Or you could call Click-and-Clack, the Tappet Brothers, on public radio and have them give you the most cost-effective solution.
Sorry, this sounds trite, but I hope you can find a good tranny shop. It might even be worth the drive out here. They have ways that a regular dealer doesn't.

You won't be changing the filter. Accords only have an internal filter that can only be accessed by removing and disassembling the entire transmission (which I would extremely discourage). You can only drain and refill the fluid.
I had an 1988 Accord with a bad 3-speed automatic. I was able to successfully transplant a 4-speed automatic tranny from a later model and drive the car for several more years. Whoever told you it "can't be repaired" is a poor source of information. It certainly can be repaired...the question is always availability of parts and skilled mechanics.

Re: 2001 Honda Accord transmission issues
The 2001 Honda Accord transmissions were recalled a couple years ago. My dad received a notice and had a new transmission built at the expense of Honda. I am not sure if the time period to get this fixed is over yet or if it ever runs out (
) but thats all I know about that topic.
