Good quintet music for wimpy trumpets
I would never maligned the trumpets players in my quintets (to their faces) but it seems that all the great quintet stuff requires superhuman trumpet skills while my merely humble tuba skills will suffice. Take most of the Canadian Brass stuff, for example, and you find that yes, Charles Dallenbach IS superhuman in his skills, but for the most part, I can handle the parts in their arrangements. The trumpet parts (and the horn, at times), however, seem to be overly daunting to those players. I would love a recommendation from the group as to what great literature may be out there that addresses this problem while still being great fun for us - the overlooked, sick-of-playing-oompa-parts, low brass.
