I had a horn shipped Greyhound from Mesa, Arizona on Tuesday... bound for Evansville, Indiana. It arrived Friday afternoon.

Truly don't know what gives with Greyhound, Shlep. I've had four tubas coming and going over the last two weeks with no problems.

I think(???) the problem may be the size of the package--a tuba is generally either sent greyhound in a case or a rectangular box--not that hard to fit under a bus. A helicon, not being able to detach the bell & being such an odd shape for packing that it takes a very large box and/or an odd shaped box, may cause the bus company problems to fit underneath the bus if they have lots of packages.
Just a thought...and kudos for Harv and his wife for going the 'extra mile' in the 'Hunt for the Helicon'......

This is true. Although Greyhound size limits are HUGE.... 84" long x 48" wide x 30" tall... freight still moves on a space-available basis. Couple that to the fact that Greyhound is beginning to run smaller buses in order to boost efficiency and also that passenger baggage goes first. Freight is often 'booted' off a bus to make room for stuff owned by passengers who board at the next stop. I find this very interesting since not all Greyhound stops handle freight. Could it be that Schlep's 'refrigerator-size' carton got booted off at a McDonalds that serves as a contract station?

Plus.... buses that are equipped with wheelchair lifts do not have as much cargo space. Freight is just a sideline for Greyhound. But... I still don't hesitate to utilize their services.
