Re: Kanstul F tuba review and Pictures!
Bob Carpenter and I were both on an Orlando Phil. rehearsal as I was filling in on a couple services on the series. He sat to my left so he would be on the end and could go back and forth between his Holton Jake tuba and the Kanstul F.He sounds great on anything he picks up but a couple of times he was playing the F and I thought he was playing the C. Granted it was in the middle register and up mostly but the sound was pretty amazing. We got finished before the rest of the group so Bob, Tom Treece, and I retired to a room in back of the hall to play on the Kanstul.I have never been fond of F tubas. It always felt like trying to run on ice but this horn slots like nothing I have ever played. And there isn't one note that's not the same as all the rest. And it sounded different with different mouthpieces but was just as easy to play.If I wasn't an old retired curmudgeon Way on the other side of the hill there would be one here now. And I'm not completely ruling that out either. Just my observations. Ed

The Kanstul is a little bigger physical size wise but much bigger sound wise. The low end is also way better on the Kanstul. Very different sound though. Very German vs. American like.pauvog1 wrote:So how does this horn compare to the cevreny 753/653? I'm guessing its a hair bigger, but not certain.

I'm not 100% sure (ask Steve) but I think the only feature that costs more is silver plate.pauvog1 wrote:What is the price break down for these with the different options? Talkin about the new Kanstuls here. Just curious. If posting here is an issue then pm will work.![]()

I find the valve stroke pretty short. Its not a huge bore through the valves so that helps there. It is for sure not longer than any of the horns listed.tubalou wrote:Hello,
Thanks for your feedbacks and comparisons...
This Kanstul tuba seems to be very interesting to me.
What about the valve stroke? Comparing to 621, 822, Gronitz and Petrushka?
On the MW 2250, for example, the valve stroke is so long that this hurts me in sinews.
