Wizard of OZ

Post by Z-Tuba Dude »

I have the Wizard of OZ on the TV, in the background, as I am on the computer. I never realized how cool the score is (quite a few little tuba solos, too!).

It is on the next two nights, on TBS. If you happen to tune in, listen during the forrest scene (just before they meet the lion)...The tuba plays some snippets of "Over the Rainbow", in that mysterious treatment of the tune.

The arrangement we have for The Old Dam Community Band has a fun tuba solo in the Scarecrow "If I Only Had a Brain" tune.

Here is a photo of Jim Self, the present owner, holding the tuba that played those parts in the movie. Jim told the story once that he pick up this 4/4 CC York and had it restored by Lee Stofer.
