Hey guys, I've been playing for almost 2 years now (no prior instrument experience), and I have been progressing rather well.. I would like to believe anyways. I am a senior in high school and it has become that time that I need to pick a solo I will perform for Solo & Ensemble. This solo will also most likely be the audition piece I play for college. I plan to attend Troy University.
The biggest problem I am having is pretty much playing a solo that would be acceptable to play at a college audition. If I had my way I would be playing Introduction and Dance or Suit for Tuba.
The problem is, I believe I would be putting myself at a major disadvantage playing these pieces. I believe I will not be able to perform them as well as I wish or believe would be suitable for a college audition. However, these are standard pieces for college auditions as far as I understand.
What I am bluntly asking, are there other pieces that may be a tad easier that I will find greater success in playing, while still being acceptable audition material for college? As far as I know, there is no list for the college I am attending.
Edit:
Also I thought it would be worthy to mention that I am going to school for music edu. not performance. The audition is required for a scholarship I wish to obtain.

Have you asked the tuba/low brass prof/instructor at Troy for recommendations of suitable material?

You didn't say if there is a required list for the state where you live. If so, you have to stay within that framework.
Take a look at the Frackenpohl Concertino. Challenging for someone who has played two years, but not terribly difficult. The slow movement is beautiful, and much can be made of it. The college audition will require both technical prowess and musical sensitivity, not necessarily in that order.
