John Rutter - What Sweeter Music

Post by Rick F »

Today I was out shopping and listening to NPR and happened to hear John Rutter being interviewed about his piece, "What Sweeter Music". Since there's a discussion thread about John Rutter's Gloria — and since I found that interview online — I thought I'd post a couple links. Mr. Rutter said that Volvo wanted to use his piece (What Sweeter Music) in their car commercial. He was concerned that that might not be a good idea, but glad he consented as the royalties from just that commercial paid for his 'composing cottage'. The commercial ran for four years.

I love John Rutter's music... not from a tuba or euphonium perspective, but from singing in our church choir.

In the New Year I will be premiering a transcription by John Holland of Rutter's Suite Antique (originally for Flute) for Euphonium & Winds.

It had surprise permission granted by OUP, one up for Euphers!
