Talked to my sister who lives in Syracuse, actually Fairmont over near the West Genny area, earlier this evening. They have 6 FEET OF SNOW AT THEIR HOUSE. For the love of God, 6 feet of snow by December 18th? And it snowed for 96 STRAIGHT hours last week, and it is still snowing!!!!!!!! Holy Crap, the desert is looking better every day.

You have been updated.

It's taken 6 1/2 decades on this planet to convince me, but I have fianally decided, "I AM AN IDIOT!" I got the rehearsal time an hour early in my daytimer for quintet and when I couldn't reach anyone for 30 minutes I left in a huff. "I AM AN IDIOT!"

All is forgiven. I went to the gig that the rehearsal was to prepare for today with a name tag on my lapel that read "MUD". Seriously two of my quintet partners had driven 30 miles for the rehearsal that didn't happen. Gig went well maybe we didn't need to rehearse after all. Sounds good to my ears anyway.

My tuba and I survived air travel in great condition (well, certainly not worse condition than we were already in). The TSA personnel at LAX were very accommodating and allowed me to supervise the inspection and locked the case for me afterward - my fingers are crossed that I can repeat this experience at O'Hare. Southwest charged me an overweight fee (for the tuba, not me!), but delivered the tuba immediately upon landing in good shape. A full-size double bass was also on the flight and appeared to be similarly unharmed.

And, in case anyone watches Hell's Kitchen, I sat across from this season's runner-up, Russell.

I got bored, so I just calculated the square footage of my apartment... yikes, I knew our place was small, but that's a really, really small number.

Is it always chilly inside, and does the light go off when you close the front door?

Just got my "new" tenor trombone in from a reputable east coast dealer. It was great at the shop...and still plays great. Cosmetically, FedEx f***ed it in the ***, though. I don't know for sure, but the crease marks in the bell seem to tell a particular story about some (idiot) dropping it on that end. And it's not like it wasn't well packed.
Of course, the shop has offered to repair it for me. Which means that it'll travel back across the country twice before it comes home. And that I can't practice it.

I have strongly censored myself, and you have been updated

I know, I know...I just wanted to give the shop the benefit of the doubt. It's going back packed more tightly than it came.
Edit-I'm going to bite the bullet and bring it to Oakland. $20-40 to have it for the next couple weeks to get comfortable with isn't too over the top...

Traditional Smithfield Virginia Country Ham has been soaking in a cold water/tea bath for 3 days to bleach out SOME of the salt. Served tomorrow with grits, red-eye gravy, sweet potatos, collard greens, and corn bread. Gotta have a little of the South in our Southwestern Festivus Celebration. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chuck"planning on going to the gym in ADVANCE of the caloric horror-fest that will be dinner"Jackson

P.S.- Prepared the traditional Virginia way- boiling it until tender.

Merry Christmas! I'm spending Christmas in Lower Nebraska this year. There's no snow so maybe my flight will be on time Monday so that's good. What's not good is that I haven't been able to play since Wednesday and will not be able to until Tuesday. I've got my mouthpiece but it's just not the same. You have been updated, Bah humbug :D

Wife's parents are here for a few days...and now apparently we're getting a blizzard. Haha, guess we're not leaving the apartment building much. I guess it's football and shooting pool with my father in law tomorrow! (Or, just a rainy day, that's possible too!):)
