New here. Mostly play trumpet and trombone, but occasionally have calls for tuba. Have been alternating between a Marcinkiewicz 107 and a 24AL.

My tuba has a bass 'bone receiver, so regular mouthpieces do not fit properly, and as I only play it occasionally (mostly for dixieland or brass quintet stuff) that's no big deal, but ...

The 107 is good - gets a good tone, and excellent flexibility.
The 24AL has a good low range, but for a trumpet player's chops is a bit wobbly on intonation.
So I'm looking at a 25 or similar, and there's the question, for those who have experience:

Looking at a Bach 25, Schilke 62, or Yamaha 66B

What can you tell me about those?

I use a Wick 0AL on my bass 'bone, as a point of reference.

The conventional wisdom is for your smaller receiver to use a Wick 3 (no letter). It has the smaller sized shank to fit your receiver. Also, Mike Finn some time ago made a run of MF4 mouthpieces with a smaller shank as well. He might have a few left. If your tuba works better with a bowl cup instead of a Wick funnel, contact Mike.

Other than replacing the receiver to a "standard" .520 "American" shank, which you will find a lot of debate on the forum as to pros and cons, yes, PT mouthpieces and others can be special ordered for any shank, but at extra cost. The Wick 3 and the small-shank run of MF4's are stock items.

If the Wick 3 is too large a cup diameter for your embouchure, Wick also makes a 4 and a 5 which are smaller diameter, more like the mouthpieces you mentioned.

Looking at a Bach 25, Schilke 62, or Yamaha 66B

I don't know the others, but if you can get the Schilke 62 in a small shank, that's a fine mouthpiece for Eb tuba. I have one in a large shank, and ... this could be BS, but I think it works better with a smaller bore, like most older Eb tubas.

Since I have no experience with the mpcs you have listed, I'll comment regarding my favorite small Eb mpc -- the John Griffiths signature model. It used to be available from Canadian music shops, but I don't know if Yamaha still makes this model or not. It is fairly small. IIRC, it is similar to the Wick 5, but I don't know if it is available for small receiver. For a trombone doubler, I'd recommend either the Griffiths or a Wick 5, as smaller mpcs suitable for Eb.

The 62 is close in specs to the size I want without the added expense of having a shank specially cut, so I will probably go with that.

Denis Wick uses a similar numbering system for each line of his mouthpieces. So you will have a tuba 1, 2, 3, etc., a bass trombone 1, 2, 3, etc. Do not confuse them. If you need more information, why not go directly to the source?
