Just a note, if you buy something now in that price range, you will almost certainly need to upgrade later (unless you score a really nice deal). Is there any potential that you could save your money, wait for HS graduation gifts, etc? Especially if you're considering performance, you don't want to compromise what works best for you.

Yamaha YEP-321S. it is the best horn for the money and you can find one either new, or slightly used in your price range. good luck!

I beg to differ. I've owned a Yamaha 321, a King 2280, and have in my possession a Boosey & Hawkes 1975 Imperial. The Imperials are getting old, and most will be in an advanced state of wear & tear. The King is a better horn than the 321 IMO. This is a good place to get a lot of good information and opinions, even about euphoniums, but it is primarily a tuba-focused site. My son has a Besson equivalent of the Boosey and Hawkes Imperial that oldbandnerd suggested. A 3+1 compensating horn, large shank receiver. It seemed to be adequate for him, but he changed his mind after one semester. This is the upgrade after the Yamaha 321.
