King Fiberglass Sousa Repair

Post by SousaSaver »

I am trying something new (for me, that is) with a King 2370 Fiberglass Sousa that I am working on. I am using a branch from another horn to make a stronger patch because of the location and severity of the damage to the original fiber. Check it out and let me know what you think of it.

After pictures will be posted next week when the horn is completed.

Warning....I'm definitely not a repair person. Does the patch continue around the bottom curve? I would think this would provide extra strength to this area to prevent the same dammage from happening again. Also, how much weight did this repair add to the horn? (-also posted on your site.)

No, the patch only goes about half way around the bottom of that section of the bow. | got lucky having the pieces fit together as well as they did considering that I got the fiber patch off of a Reynolds Sousa body. I wish I could have gone ferrule to ferrule. It would have looked virtually seamless, and provided greater strength.

Speaking of which, I found a weak spot in that same branch that I later had to patch with a fiberglass kit, which is strong just not as pretty.

The repair doesn't add any noticable weight to the horn.

Thanks for the questions!
